G News - The other side of the story

Bomber has written a scathing article about Labour and Chippy's speech - but praised the Greens - and described Luxon's speech as angry. Bomber's criticism is Labour are too incremental about reform and the speech too nirvana in the long term future and he has no time for bipartisan policies.

The other side of the story is - if Labour had ignored the economic conditions between the 2020 and 2023 election, implemented the TVNZ/RNZ merger, pushed through 3 waters under urgency, slammed in hate speech legislation and even smacked up a wealth tax and capital gains tax - how much of that would have been repealed by now?

The answer is all of it .

The election result was not about policy but resentment of an economic shock and the health response to Covid in Auckland.

The three year political cycle would have rendered all that legislation to the yo yo factory rubbish bin - in the same way the Maori Health Authority was canned, the Fair Pay Agreements scrapped, the clean car discounts eliminated, the GIDI projects defunded, the benefits indexed to inflation dismantled, and the RMA 2.0 booted into the ditch.

That's the trouble with how voters - vote against incumbents after an economic shock - the change is temporary and gone and then where are you? No better off, probably worse if you vote in Neoliberals.

Bomber rages hard against James Shaws Zero Carbon Act - but it is still standing and is lasting change...so please, it's one things to sound off in a rant - but in the pragmatic real world - lasting change takes something more than being radical and bi-partisan accords tend to stand up longer.

The status quo is a slow moving beast - but it does move.

It's not fast enough in some respects - I agree - but the last thing we need is to attack ourselves on the left bloc - when we need to push the issues up against the current mob in power.

The way forward does not involve biting your own hand to spite your face - Comrade lol.

In my view it is a good thing Chippy laid down a vision for 2040 in some detail - because when we talk about if we are heading in the right or wrong direction - it makes sense to understand what the destination looks like.

That's where we are going...it's a great vision.

Let's get there by focusing on the real enemy and developing the best policies, not running at the mouth to try and get attention.
